Moving Online: Youth Worker Training Series
Social distancing has required that a lot of the important work that youth workers do change to an online platform. Youth workers and programs need support to continue to build relationships and support asset based youth development through online platforms and distance learning. Sprockets has received a grant provided by Youthprise’s COVID 19 Emergency Response Fund to support professional development made for youth workers by youth workers.
Sprockets is looking to contract with youth development professionals to create online-based professional development opportunities. We are looking for you to share your passions, areas of interest or experience to inspire and engage other youth work professionals. You will create and deliver a virtual professional development opportunity supporting youth serving organizations to connect with young people during this time of COVID-19 and distance learning.
Project Overview: Sprockets is developing high quality and engaging online trainings that model youth development best practices. Training themes will include:
1. Distance Learning Best Practices - Best practices for engaging with your youth remotely/online, online facilitation that promotes relationship building and asset based youth development.
2. Youth Voice & Engagement- Creating authentic youth voice and engagement through online programming and distance learning.
3. Equity - Supporting programs and young people to address issues of equity through online and distance learning
Sprockets will support contracted youth workers throughout the process as thought partners and provide coaching, technical assistance and additional content resources as needed. Additional supports for facilitator teams include technology platform access, recruitment, registration, and materials. Each professional development event will be promoted by Sprockets engaging participants from its network and throughout the region. In addition to the live event, Sprockets will record these webinars and make them available to other participants through our website.
Stipend: Each youth worker contracted will be paid $1,000 for their work and will be supported by Sprockets throughout the project. If needed, Sprockets will cover the cost of supplies and/or materials necessary to create these professional development opportunities.
Sprockets would like to start the creation of these professional development opportunities right away. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the interest form as soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact Erik Skold at erik.skold@ci.stpaul.mn.us or 651-253-3947.
The opportunity to submit an “Interest Form” will remain open until all funds are exhausted.
Eligible Participants: Priority will be for youth workers who primarily serve Saint Paul youth and have been laid off, furloughed, or have had their hours reduced from their position due to COVID 19 .
A stipend for $1,000 per person will be awarded with completion of the project.
